2. Type of support: Temporary home maintenance support
3. Local partner: Kebele 12 administrative office
4. Problems identified:
• A woman lives with her children in a small temporary shelter which is made from wooden with mud and the wall was covered by some corrugated iron sheet that was provided from the community. This woman her children family had lived for more than 20 years and the home became old and not maintained by the local kebele administration due to lack of attention and resource scarcity. So that, they suffered more especially during the rainy season. They were forced to sleep with a muddy ground without a bed which exposes them different health problems.
• Besides this devastating living condition, she had tried to send her children to school with the income that she get from doing some begging in the strait
5. Intervention:
• The project identified the problem by having a face to face communication with the local kebele admin. And decided to support a fifty -fifty share. Therefore, in our part; we covered the expense of wooden materials and corrugated iron sheet for the roof with a total cost of 4,000 ETB. The community covered the expenses of nail, mud, and the cost of labor related expenses.
6. Future direction:
• As the way we support them, we see some good opportunity to support the children educational progress because we have identified that the older boy is now attending grade 5, last year he had scored 90% and stood 3nd at class from the whole student.
7. Conclusion
• Lastly, now the family home is well maintained and managed to live safely. Their hope has revived and thanked us. The local kebele admin also gave us a thank you later for our project with a signature from the chair.
